Quake Live entered its open beta yesterday afternoon to a mad rush of eager teenagers in basements all over the world! QL is a FPS version of Quake 3 that will run in your browser. I was able to test and run it perfectly on Firefox and IE. Posts at the official forum seem to indicate that Google Chrome is not compatible though.


It seems that ID was not prepared for the response it received causing many users to be thrown into a “queue” (My self included being #22345 in line for some time). As I had been a closed beta user I did not require any new downloading and was thrown into a ranking bot game. In the ranking game you play against “Crash” an annoying female (yeah right, a woman in a fps, what next women in the army?) who pretty much stands around shooting the wall while you fill her big mouth full of lead.
The game itself plays much like the original, run around, find guns, pwn noobs. And boy are there noobs… The graphics have been spiffied up a bit but nothing too spectacular. I was able to run it on my old desktop (intel Core 2 duo E4500, 2GB ram, Radeon HD 3600) on max settings without a slowdown, it did though, pwn my laptop.
